The Port of Tacoma is governed by five commissioners, each elected by Pierce County voters to serve four-year terms. As at-large representatives, commissioners are elected by voters across the entire county, not by district. The commission hires the Port’s executive director, sets policy and strategic direction, and approves major expenditures. The Port operates as an independent municipal corporation under Title 53 of the Revised Code of Washington and is designated as a special purpose district.
Commission Meetings
The Port of Tacoma holds regular public meetings at 12:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month, and an extra meeting on the first Thursday in November. If a legal holiday falls early in the week of a scheduled meeting, the meeting will instead take place on the second business day following the holiday. Meetings take place at the Fabulich Center, 3600 Port of Tacoma Road, Room 104, Tacoma, WA. Please note: Meeting dates and times are subject to change.
